SNAILS!!!!

>> Thursday, July 24, 2014

Yesterday was a really rainy day here and the kids and I were going crazy by the afternoon because we couldn't be outside. It finally stopped around 6:00 and we practically all went running for the door! We decided to go on a snail hunt!!!! So we got a little shovel, container and the pink tricycle. Obviously the seat that comes up on the trike was the perfect cage for the snails..it was already half full of rocks so off we went! The kids would squeal with excitement every time we found one!
We eventually recruited the neighbors to come help us:
Most of the kids would just pick them up by their shells (especially Annie) and after just going up and down half our street, we found TONS of them!!!! I didn't count but I would say 20-30. That's a lot of Turbos people!
We also found a ton of disgusting slugs and I learned about this type of slug called a banana slug. When it was all the way stretched out it took up a good 1/2 or more of the width of the sidewalk. That's how it was when we first came up to it and I thought it was a giant fat snake! The boys decided to "destroy" it with a laser:
Once we got home with all the snails, Annie, Elizabeth and Emma started building a habitat for them after transferring them all to a big bin. They filled it with leaves , grass and flowers. They desperately wanted to keep them all as pets, but before bed we let them free to find their homes!

On a side note, it rained again today and we went on another snail hunt and only found 2! Even after expanding our search area....go figure!

More gymnastics

Today was the kids 2nd gymnastics class and the twins decided they definitely wanted to be in the preschool class with Annie...luckily for me and her because I believe that's what got her to stay in class the whole hour today!!

They did good at listening. Annie wouldn't do exactly what she was told on the trampoline, but she waited her turn and then just did her own thing every time! Annie loves that she is 3 now and can do things with them, she can also go to a music class with them every week that she's always wanted to go to but couldn't. It was really fun for me to see them all together.
